The Barrasford Arms has closed permanently, leaving the small Northumberland community of Barrasford without a pub. The country pub and inn, located north of Hexham, shut several weeks ago.
The closure means residents no longer have a local pub in the village. According to Google Maps, some of the closest remaining pub businesses are in Humshaugh and Chollerford.
A long-established village inn
The Barrasford Arms was a 1870s country pub and inn. It had changed ownership several times over the last few years before its latest closure.
The loss removes a long-standing meeting place from a village described as vibrant, with a strong community spirit. The closure also leaves local residents and visitors looking beyond Barrasford for a pub.
Parish council wants to explore options
A spokesperson for Chollerton Parish Council said the council was saddened to hear that the Barrasford Arms had closed again.
“The Parish Council was saddened to hear that the Barrasford Arms has closed again. ” “Barrasford is a vibrant village with great community spirit and a desire to explore options to keep a local pub at the heart of the village.”
The council said it wanted to explore options for keeping a local pub at the heart of Barrasford. No further details about those options or the future of the premises were provided.
