A father-and-son racing team from Hexham is heading into the British Truck Racing Championship finale with both drivers chasing success at Brands Hatch.

Stuart and Michael Oliver, who compete together as Team Oliver Racing, will take on the final round from October 31 to November 1. Stuart currently sits second in the championship standings, while Michael is fourth, putting both Hexham drivers in strong positions before the season-ending event.

A season of eight wins

Team Oliver Racing has recorded eight race wins this season at circuits including Donington Park, Snetterton and Le Mans. The pair compete in five-tonne trucks capable of reaching speeds of up to 100mph.

Stuart Oliver made his racing debut in 1998 and is a 10-time British Truck Racing Champion as well as a former European champion. Michael began racing competitively in 2016.

“We’ve had a really good season so far and it’s great to be heading into the final in such a strong position. Brands Hatch always has a fantastic atmosphere and we’ll be giving it everything we’ve got to finish the season on a high.”

Stuart said the team would be aiming to end the campaign strongly at the Kent circuit.

Michael said he hoped the pair could continue providing supporters with an exciting finale.

“It’s been a great season for us, and hopefully we can continue to give the fans plenty to cheer about at Brands Hatch.”

Team supported by ODYSSEY batteries

The team is supported by ODYSSEY batteries, which power its high-performance racing trucks. The batteries are manufactured by EnerSys, which also supplies the ODYSSEY Connect monitoring system used by the team.

The system allows the team to track battery health and performance through an app. Michael said dependable components were particularly important when competing at this level.

“When you’re racing at this level, it’s important to have complete confidence in every part of the truck and its components. We’ve used ODYSSEY batteries for many years because we know we can rely on their performance when we need it. They’ve never let us down.”

EnerSys sales director EMEA Transportation Sabine Lejeune said the company was proud of its partnership with Team Oliver Racing, which has lasted 10 years.

“We’re proud of our 10-year partnership with Team Oliver Racing. We’ve seen some fantastic performances from Team Oliver Racing over the years, and we’ll be behind the father and son duo once again as they head into the championship finale.”

The championship finale takes place at Brands Hatch from October 31 to November 1.
