A seven-year-old runner from Hexham has been named the fastest girl in the red wave of the AJ Bell Junior and Mini Great North Run.

Emily Craddock completed the 1.2km Mini Great North Run in five minutes and 15 seconds on Saturday, September 12, earning recognition for her performance in the event.

Hexham runner praised for determination

Emily’s mother, Helen Craddock, said her daughter had a natural ability for running and regularly took part in Hexham Junior Park Run. Emily also attends Beaufront First School.

“We’re all so proud of Emily’s attitude and determination and she’s showing signs of being a great young athlete. ”

Helen said Emily “just loves to run” and had shown exceptionally fast running ability from a young age.

“She just loves to run and has had super speedy legs from a very young age. It's brilliant to see how many events there are in the local area now to support children to be inspired and get out there!”

Family celebrates race success

The result adds to Emily’s experience of running events and highlights the opportunities available to young athletes in and around Hexham. Her family said they were proud of the attitude and determination she showed during the race.
