A person has died after being struck by a train on the railway line between Hexham and Haydon Bridge, disrupting services for passengers travelling between Hexham and Carlisle on October 5.

British Transport Police said officers were called to the line at 6.35am following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious. A file will be prepared for the coroner.

Train disruption after the incident

Network Rail said the person was struck at about 6.30am and that emergency services were supported at the scene. Services between Hexham and Carlisle were affected, with disruption expected until 11am for some routes.

Normal service resumed at 9.10am, although passengers were advised to check before travelling because some services could still be altered while the railway recovered.

“We’re sorry for the disruption caused to passengers after a person was struck by a train between Hexham and Haydon Bridge at about 6.30am. We supported the emergency services at the scene, normal service resumed at 9.10am but passengers are advised to check before they travel as some services may still be subject to alteration while the railway recovers.”
