What happened on the A69
Northumbria Police received a report shortly before 1.30pm on Saturday, September 26, after a crash involving a black Honda and the blue Volkswagen Tiguan.
Emergency services attended the scene, where Ms Flatman was pronounced dead.
The collision has led to a series of charges against Porter, who is from Wolsingham in the Bishop Auckland area of County Durham. Alongside the charge of causing death by dangerous driving, he faces two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
He has also been charged with driving while unfit through drink or drugs and possessing a Class A controlled drug.
Court hearing and next steps
Police said Porter has also been charged, in a separate matter, with two counts of breaching a sexual risk order.
Porter appeared at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, October 3, and was remanded in custody.
His next hearing is due to take place at Newcastle Crown Court on November 2. The charges relate to the crash and the other alleged offences set out by police.
