Hexham’s fireworks display will return to The Sele on November 7, with residents and visitors being asked to donate £5 to help secure the town’s 2027 event.
The display, organised by Hexham Town Council, will begin at 7pm at The Sele. Organisers say donations will help fund next year’s fireworks, while any surplus will be passed to local charities and community causes.
What to expect at The Sele
The evening will include a fire display using gas burners alongside the fireworks. Hexham Samba will perform on drums at the Bandstand before the main display begins.
Mayor Derek Kennedy said the event had become an important date in the town’s calendar and encouraged those who were able to contribute.
“Hexham Fireworks is a highlight of our town’s calendar, bringing the whole community together for a brilliant evening.”
“Each year, we ask those who can to donate towards the 2027 display, and the people of Hexham respond with remarkable generosity.”
“Just £5 from everyone who is able to contribute helps secure the future of this much-loved event, and any surplus funds are donated to local charities and community causes.”
Cllr Kennedy also thanked the groups helping to stage the event, including the Rotary Club of Hexham, Lions Club of Tynedale and North of Tyne Mountain Rescue.
“We are enormously grateful to everyone who plays a part in making the event happen, particularly the Rotary Club of Hexham, Lions Club of Tynedale and North of Tyne Mountain Rescue, whose support is invaluable.”
He said he was looking forward to residents and visitors gathering for the display.
“I look forward to seeing residents and visitors come together once again for what promises to be another fantastic display.”
Businesses and volunteers involved
Cllr Suzanne Fairless-Aitken said volunteers and the wider community were helping bring the annual event to life. Local independent businesses and pubs are expected to stay open later or host events after the fireworks, giving visitors more options in the town after the display.
“It’s great to have the community on board for this and volunteers to help us bring our annual event alive.”
“Lots of our local independent businesses and pubs are staying open later or hosting events afterwards, so keep a look out for those too.”
She described The Sele as a natural amphitheatre for the show.
“Nothing finer than the smell of fireworks on the Sele in our natural amphitheatre to showcase the amazing show.”
The community effort will continue the following morning. The Hexham Wombles will carry out a litter pick at The Sele on November 8, the day after the display.
