One person was taken to hospital after a car and a bus were involved in a crash on the A686 near Haydon Bridge in west Northumberland.
The collision happened on Wednesday 30 September 2026 at about 3.35pm, on the rural route between the B6295 and Langley Castle Hotel, just south of Haydon Bridge. It is understood the casualty was not travelling on the bus.
Emergency response
Several emergency services attended the scene, including the Great North Air Ambulance Service. The North East Ambulance Service sent two ambulance crews and a clinical team leader, with support from the air ambulance service.
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: We were called to a road traffic incident on the A686 in Haydon Bridge at 15:35 on Wednesday 30 September 2026. We dispatched two ambulance crews, one clinical team leader and supported by Great North Air Ambulance (GNAAS). One patient was taken to RVI hospital by road for further treatment.
Road closure
Traffic monitoring showed the A686 was closed in both directions for several hours because of the incident, which involved “a bus and a car”. The closure affected the route near the hotel while the emergency response was under way.
The casualty was taken by road to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary, also known as RVI, for further treatment. No further information about the person’s condition was provided in the report.
