A key road near Hexham has closed in both directions as major resurfacing works begin on the B6307.

The closure affects the section between the A695 and the B6306 at Linnels Bank. The AA reported the closure at around 7am on October 5, while Northumberland County Council’s roadworks information describes the affected route as the B6307 between Dilston and Hexham.

When the closure is in place

The first two phases of the council’s scheme began on October 5 and are due to continue until October 20. During those phases, the road is closed from 8am until 5.30pm.

The work includes resurfacing and other associated activities. Access for residents and businesses will be maintained where it is safe and possible, although drivers using the route should expect disruption during the working hours.

Further work planned

The closure is part of a wider traffic order that runs until March 26, 2027, with the work being delivered in phases. This means the current daytime closure is not the full duration of the wider scheme, and further restrictions may be introduced as later phases take place.

Separate tree-felling work by Total Resources is also expected to require a temporary closure on November 16, from 9am until 12.30pm.

Residents and businesses along the route are advised to allow extra time and check the latest roadworks information before travelling. The source does not specify a diversion route or a precise reopening time outside the stated working hours.
